Spotlight: Sooner or Later
"Sooner or Later" is one of three singles off Jumping Ship's 2nd EP titled "Good Grief."
Fast-paced and candid, this song is 3 minutes of stellar guitar tone and brutal revelation. dropping during the home stretch of what's undoubtedly been a taxing year and a half for everyone, Sooner or Later is carrying so much frustration and is unsure where to put it. At a glance, it's a song about the grief that comes tied to the tail of an inevitably fleeting happiness. However, the truth is that it's a realization of an incredibly flawed perception of life. What begins as a PSA to prepare for a cruel world quickly becomes an SOS from someone who is finally grasping the severity of their own frayed emotional state. Though the track starts with bold talks of reckless abandon, by verse 2 is articulating the lost sense of who one is, and the eventual full admission of self-destruction by the end of the bridge. It's a moment of self-discovery that is dissected, questioned, and grappled with throughout the rest of the EP in search of answers, silver linings, and ultimately, closure.
